Horror Short Review: Katie (2026)

Written, shot and edited in just 48 hours, Katie comes from director Nathan Wright-Edwards, who co-wrote and produced it with Sam Wright-Edwards. It stars Olivia St. Louis, Mackenzie Kelly, and Eric Potechin.

Katie, a young woman, has taken to wearing a mask and not speaking. This, unsurprisingly, concerns her mother who clashes with her husband, Katie’s father, over it. He believes Katie is just going through a faze and left alone, she will take it off herself. However, the mother sees it very differently and starts to wonder if it’s even her daughter under the mask anymore.

The truth is unexpected, and dark.

No spoilers here, as the reveal is so important, and it doesn’t disappoint. The talent involved in making this short is impressive, especially when you consider the 48-hour time frame. I wouldn’t call it a scary short, but it does build tension nicely and the ending is undeniably horrible in its own, too real, way. Check it out below.
