Album Review: Turmion Kätilöt – Resodance (Nuclear Blast Records)

Turmion Kätilöt have spent more than twenty years building one of the most distinctive identities in the Nordic metal scene. Now, on October 23rd, 2026, they will release their twelfth studio album, ‘Resodance’.

Part industrial club rave, part EDM-infused dance party, and part head banger’s ball, Turmion Kätilöt’s uniqueness is on full and garish display here. The band don’t even try to reinvent the wheel, they just do what they do best and it’s a ton of fun.

Beginning in unserious fashion, the Finnish group make it abundantly clear that this going to be an album of anthems. Weird and wonderful anthems that have widespread appeal. Case in point, Nostajat’s playful start that transitions into a punchy and powerful industrial heavyweight hit, and Kunnioita’s bouncy singalong vibe. Both tracks embody the sound of this band as a live unit, something that ends up being consistent throughout.

Turmion Kätilöt have sought to capture their live sound in all its infectious glory and, in my opinion, nailed it. Showcasing energised creativity with the likes of the dynamic Pöytäviinaa Ja Pimeitä Naisia, the booming intensity of Amon-Ra and its awesome chorus, the fist-pumping and body shaking Hallelujah!, and the immensely cinematic Näe Minut.

It might be straight-forward enough for the band, but that doesn’t mean it lacks variety or effort. The whole band are gelling really well, but special credit much be given to vocalist MC Raaka Pee who is sounding really strong on the album, especially when working with other voices such as on the lovable Lunastakaa. The heart racing pace of this one is one thing, but the layered effects and big chorus is another, helping make it one of the album’s most memorable tracks of all.

It’s constantly high bar stuff and only the most miserable of souls will find themselves unmoved by what the album offers. How can anyone not find the likes of Karma, Levolle Laske, Teloitus, and Raivotarjonta so much fun? Each offers up a variety of danceable, industrial-tinged, catchy efforts that will leave all sweaty and out of breath. Exactly like it is at a Turmion Kätilöt live show.

Wrapping it up is In Our Dreams (to be continued 1), a track like nothing else on the album. Highly melodic, downright serene, and quite pretty. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but on repeated plays I really fell in love with it. It’s an epic closer.

I got a real kick out of the album even though I’m not going to tell you it is the best thing I’ve ever heard, because it’s not. It’s Turmion Kätilöt doing what they do and that put a big smile on my face. My body was still moving to the sound of the album long after it had ended.
