Album Review: thrown – UNWANTED (Arising Empire)

Swedish metalcore phenomenon thrown return with their new album ‘UNWANTED’. Out on November 6th, 2026, via Arising Empire.

On an unstoppable rise, thrown are back with, arguably, their best album to date. Certainty their most accessible, and that is hardly going to dent their popularity now, is it? Don’t mistake that for meaning thrown have dropped their intensity or chaotic side though. Far from it, and there are plenty of examples throughout the eleven tracks of the album of thrown letting loose.

What gives it a more accessible feel is the refinement of what the modern metalcore band do. They are sounding pretty damn big, which when you consider they’ve only been around since 2021, is impressive.

UNWANTED is a short and sharp slap to the side of the head as thrown lean into the heavier side of their core sound. Spitting and snarling with unrepentant aggression and intensity on brash efforts like critic, don’t be fooled, the title track, and rehearsed. The use of effects helps balance things, but the first part of the album comes fast, hard, and in very addictive fashion.

The rest of the album? There’s doing great, which stomps around with complete abandon. There’s type of way, which puts great emphasis on effects. Then there’s off and split, with the former encouraging some two-step behaviour and the latter encouraging some hardcore pit antics. Something that continues into the sneering hard times, thrown’s aggressive sound still as potent at the end as it was at the beginning.

A major reason for this is the length. Even though it features eleven tracks, only five them pass the two-minute mark, and nothing goes past the two-and-a-half-minute mark. This kind of power-driven focus ensures the listener is kept on their toes and still feeling the impact of a crunching effort like bare minimum or a cocky, in your face effort like subpar.

The future of thrown is brighter than ever, and UNWANTED is the next chapter of their world dominating story.
