Album Review: F.A.M. – Pleasure Of Torture (Selfmadegod Records)

‘Pleasure Of Torture’ is the brand-new album from grinding, brutal death metal band, F.A.M. It will be released on August 7th, 2026, via Selfmadegod Records.

Ten vile showcases of savagery, and one vicious cover, Pleasure of Torture is a ‘take no prisoners’ kind of release. Where track after track rips and tears through the mind, body, and soul like a wild beast, and by the end you’re liable to be curled up in a bell crying and begging for it all to stop. Fun, eh?

F.A.M. aren’t looking to change the world, but they are looking to make it that little more brutal. Something they do with relative ease courtesy of a focused sound. It’s all about razor sharp riffs, pummelling drums, and guttural vocals, nothing more and nothing less. Sometimes, it takes on a more traditional death metal form, others, drawing heavily from the sickening world of grind, sometimes it seems to be more slam than anything, but regardless of the form, it is ruthless.

Is it enjoyable though? Of course it is, but I like extreme metal, especially extreme metal that has a relentless, brain-busting, face-melting, and kneecap breaking style like this. It’s noise, but you can pick out the instruments, and there’s enough variety between savage assaults, that interest is kept high right to the end. Basically, sometimes F.A.M. go straight for the jugular and sometimes they go for the belly. One is quicker and more violent; the other is drawn out and downright tortuous.

The unrelenting nature of their music isn’t for everyone, but death metal rarely is, and when some grinding intensity is added to the mix, the list of potential fans gets a little slim. However, I firmly believe that everyone who does find themselves soaking in the gore of it all, while do so because it has captured their imagination. Although that might be by force.

Summed up, Pleasure of Torture is the sound of vehemence delivered with the kind of skill and attention to detail that makes it so much more than just another extreme record. F.A.M. have killed it here.
