Live Review: The Devil Wears Prada at Electric Brixton, London (23/10/26)

There’s nothing like going to see a band that you like with someone who loves them. It can be incredibly annoying, but way more that, it can be incredibly powerful. Almost by osmosis, and even though I was so bloody tired, my enjoyment of The Devil Wears Prada went up significantly and it was all because the person I was with was enamoured with them.

I’m a fan, maybe not as much as I should be considering their body of work, but I’ve not seen them live often before and never as a headline act. So, it was a pleasure to rectify that at Electric Brixton on a cold, wet, and very windy night in the capital, courtesy of Storm Austen.

Now, this was a four-band bill, but with doors opening at 5pm, commitments elsewhere, and train delays, I thought I was lucky to get there in time to see Novelists. Except I didn’t. I arrived just as they ended and at around 8:25pm, the lights went down for The Devil Wears Prada’s arrival. That’s an ungodly time for a headline act to be on in London on a Friday night, but Electric Brixton has a 10pm curfew so it can transform into a club space afterwards.

The place was packed for The Devil Wears Prada though, as London came out in force for the metalcore band. Who were surprisingly energised considering they had been on tour in Europe since the beginning of October, and these handful of UK dates were wrapping things up. Throughout the set they talk about their love for the UK and their love for London, specifically, managing to get the crowd booing when Manchester and Birmingham are mentioned. It’s all fun and games though, and those good time vibes stay present throughout.

It’s infectiously positive in fact, as I found myself surrounded by people who loved this band. Singing along loudly, dancing wildly, head banging like it was going out of business, circle pitting with intent, and crowd surfing no matter what was going on. The latter even happening on masse during an instrumental. It was very cool to see, but even cooler than that was a powerful set that sounded great (big up Electric Brixton’s sound team) and a set that was packed with favourites. No easy task when you consider just how many great songs the band has.

That being said, the focus of this tour is Flowers, their latest album released in November last year, and a hefty portion of the set is dedicated to it. That’s to be expected, and the crowd reacted accordingly to the likes of Where the Flowers Grow, For You, and Ritual. Three of the album’s stronger efforts. Though, when compared to the reaction that the likes of Broken, Sacrifice, Kansas, and Chemical got, you can tell that the new album isn’t quite as highly rated.

Shortly after half nine, the show wrapped up, if you can believe that, but not before two bangers gave us an energised encore to send everyone home happy. Play the Old Shit, which is a Flowers vinyl-only secret track (available digitally now too) and has The Devil Wears Prada clapping back at their critics. Sitting alongside Hey John, What’s Your Name Again? from Plagues. Cool stuff all round!

They came, they conquered.
