Album Review: Ruled By Raptors – A Shadow That Never Moves (Self Released)
Ruled by Raptors, the post-hardcore unit, will release their brand-new record, the mini album ‘A Shadow That Never Moves’ on October 2nd, 2026. Delivering an eight-track blast of energy and intensity that leaves you thoroughly satisfied but wanting so much more.

Yes, I dig the hell out of this record, finding it to be a smart, creative, and exciting listen. Ruled by Raptors are a great band, and if this is your introduction to them, you’re going to come away very pleased, and you don’t even have to be a post-hardcore fan either!
That’s because there’s a fair bit more going on and Ducere makes that clear in less than two minutes. That’s the time it takes for Ruled by Raptors to come stomping out of the blocks with a hefty instrumental sound.
An uptick in energy, the arrival of powerful vocals, and a strong post-hardcore vein shifts the tone, but in a very positive direction. It is Fiends, and it’s a banger. As is the experimental and edgy Sleep Dep, the intense Rescissory with its potent lyrics, and the melodic and moody drone of Mancunian Japanese. These tracks showcase so many clever ideas that if you aren’t sold on Ruled by Raptors once you hear them, you might need to get your ears cleaned out.
You might wonder if it can possibly get any better at this stage so let me assure you that it can. It’s Static Collapse, and it’s the album’s strongest, most expressive, most challenging, and most absorbing listen. I love it and found myself returning to it more than any other track. Which is quite something when you take into account the strength of Algebra (I’m On a Rage) too, and how catchy it is.
Take a deep breath as with a degree of emotion, Ad Infinitum eases things out. It’s a short outro, that puts a heart-warming ‘post’ bow on a brilliant record. Ruled by Raptors are the real deal, and this record proves it unequivocally.
