Horror Short Review: Trick or Treat (2026)

Trick or treat! It’s Halloween, and ACMofficial are handing out more than candy here. Coming from writer and director, Alex Magaña, Trick or Treat is a delightfully dark and gleefully twisted Halloween horror short that has a different feel to the usual shorts the company puts out.

A woman (Bell Balestrero) is in the Halloween mood, dressing up as a witch and happily answering the door to any trick or treaters that come her way. She has a bowl full of candy to dish out, and the night is in full flow. That is until a mysterious child covered with a bedsheet, for a cheap ghost effect, arrives at her door.

Thanks to a radio broadcast, Trick or Treat reveals its hand early, but it doesn’t diminish the end result, which is very enjoyable. Magaña manages to capture the look and feel of the holiday, as well as the Autumnal season, and enhances everything with a booming score. It’s been a while since I’ve seen an ACMofficial short that I liked as much as this!
