Soilwork – Night Whispers & Shining Lights
Swedish melodic death metal heroes Soilwork have released their brand-new single, ‘Night Whispers & Shining Lights’, capping off a monumental year celebrating the band’s 30th anniversary. The track drops in the midst of the band’s massive, ongoing European tour alongside Amon Amarth and Orbit Culture.
Björn “Speed” Strid comments:
‘Night whispers & Shining Lights’ is a hidden gem that’s been brewing in the vaults for a couple of years but celebrates our 30th anniversary and the embarkation of our tour with Amon Amarth and Orbit Culture in a grand way. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! See you on stage soon.
Keeping it quite simple, but very effective, Soilwork’s new track is a bold showcase of their melodeath power. In particular, how effortlessly Björn can switch up his vocals. It’s a lively effort, with tons of harmonised power, and plenty of head banging inducing moments.
All Out of Bubblegum – I Just Saw A Spooky Ghost
Getting in the spooky spirit, Manchester’s All Out of Bubblegum are back with a themed track. It’s ‘I Just Saw A Spooky Ghost’!
A fun, tongue-in-cheek Halloween-inspired anthem, All Out of Bubblegum have gone the ghoulish route with this infectious party playlist banger. It is a raw and wriggling rock tune that is loud enough to wake the dead and energetic enough to get them moving.
PAVÉ – Spine
Manchester alternative quartet PAVÉ return with their new single ‘Spine’, which explores the realities we create when the truth becomes too difficult to face.
Speaking on the new single, vocalist Alanya Jade shares:
‘Spine’ is about what happens when someone builds their own version of reality to escape the consequences of their actions, and what happens when that world inevitably comes crashing down. Exploring guilt, denial and the stories we tell ourselves to survive, the track captures the moment you break free from someone else’s narrative and realise you no longer have to live inside it. At its core, ‘Spine’ is about the idea that not every paradise is peaceful. Some are built to hide the truth.
Continuing to set the alternative world alight, the spark that makes PAVÉ such a compelling listen is brighter than ever on this infectious anthem. A punchy and persuasive blast of body-shaking energy, melodrama, and alternative rock heaviness. If you like what PAVÉ do, then you’ll like this.
Sleepwalker – Phantom Pain
Cinematic modern metalcore outfit Sleepwalker have dropped their new single, ‘Phantom Pain’. The track is lifted from their incoming new EP, ‘Vol I: Eclipse’, out 22nd January 2027.
A track that steps out of the shadow of modern metalcore demands by displaying imaginative twists on well-worn formulas. There’s a dreaminess to the track courtesy of the melodies, a sense of discombobulation with the cinematic approach, but plenty of grounding heaviness too. Overall, it is a very memorable listen.
Mirrortalk – Calm on the Surface
Birmingham quartet Mirrortalk have released their new single ‘Calm On The Surface’, the next track to be taken from their forthcoming EP ‘Where Does Everyone Go When I Need Them Most’, due out 27th of November via Hassle Records.
Speaking of the new single Mirrortalk vocalist Mat Coffey shares:
‘Calm On The Surface’ is about loss. It’s about the constant desire to seem okay, the front we put on, and the vulnerability we hide. But it’s also about how to draw strength from those you miss. Being calm on the surface and being truly calm are very different; this song seeks to help bridge the gap between the two.
Featuring a bit of grungy swagger, effervescent post-hardcore infusions, and touches of dramatic shoegaze, this new Mirrortalk release is very compelling. Delivering a layered piece that switches effortlessly between laidback harmony to more urgent crashing rock heaviness. It grips.
Rage Doll – Low Blow
‘Low Blow’ is the new single from the rock and alternative artist Rage Doll.
There’s a ‘kitchen sink’ feel to this track, but Rage Doll do such a good job of making all the parts work together, that there’s little to complain about. It’s a heavyweight alt-effort that brings poppy synth, rocked up distortion, and heavier, intense flashes with varied cultural influences. It could be a mess, but it’s not, and impressively, Rage Doll manage to showcase so much personality with it.
Words That Burn – Take A Bow
Irish independent metal band Words That Burn have released their brand-new single, ‘Take A Bow’.
It feels like ages since we checked in with Words That Burn, and happily, their new stuff doesn’t disappoint. In fact, thanks to a maturing sound and having developed as musicians, what we have here is quite fresh. A melodic metal banger with vibrant tone shifts that give it a contemporary feel, it is quite catchy and one most will find themselves constantly coming back to.
After Elmer – Dumb Luck
On October 23rd, the Rotterdam-based pop-punk band After Elmer will release their new single, ‘Dumb Luck’. The track explores how jealousy toward the success of others can stand in the way of one’s own happiness. It is the third single from their upcoming album, ‘Are You Happy Yet?’, which is set for release on November 13th.
The end is well and truly in sight (the release of the album is also the end of the band), and in line with what we’ve heard from the album so far, this new single is another lovable singalong. Vibrant pop punk with heart and soul, there’s nothing complicated here, and that is perfectly fine.
Pyrogaric – Bury My Soul
Welsh heavy rock trio Pyrogaric have released their new single and video, ‘Bury My Soul’.
Oof! I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t this and I’m delighted. Blues-soaked hard rock mixed with 70’s style doom, there’s so much going on that even after several listens I still felt like I was peeling away layers. It’s an absorbing listen, downright hypnotic, and one that is so easy to fall in love with.
Defences – Death of A Dream
Following their spectacular collaboration with Skindred’s Benji Webbe on ‘More Of Us (Than There Are Of Them)’, British alt-metal outfit Defences returns with their new single ‘Death Of A Dream.’ The track explores the bittersweet grief of relinquishing an old vision for the future, celebrating the liberation that comes with stepping fully into your own power.
Explains vocalist Cherry Duesbury:
Sometimes you have to allow an old dream to die to make space for a life that actually feels like yours.
Finally getting the recognition they deserve, Defences’ alternative metal sound continues to set modern trends, and this new track embodies the passion and emotion behind the band. Heavy on the effects, with wild metal eruptions, and stunning vocals on display, although I don’t see the point of putting effects on them, it’s another great track from this band overall.
Necronautical – Enemy of the Grave
UK black metal outfit Necronautical has announced their fifth full-length record, ‘The Second Death’, set for release on December 4th via Vendetta Records. In support of the album, the band has unveiled the first single ‘Enemy of the Grave’, accompanied by a lyric video.
A big step forward for the black metallers as they expand their heavy horizons into death and melodic death metal territories. Delivering a cacophony of resplendent heaviness that comes with garish intensity. It’s a bold new direction for the band, all while they stay true to their core.
Scarlet Rebels – God’s Honest Truth
Welsh rock band Scarlet Rebels have released their new single and video ‘God’s Honest Truth’ ahead of their new album ‘Flawed By Design’, out 13 November via Earache Records.
A groovy, hip-swaying, finger-snapping, and foot-tapping blast of high-powered rock that comes laced with infectious melody, it’s Scarlet Rebels and this new single is great. Banging single after banging single, this new album is shaping up to be one of the band’s best.
Northlane – Deathwish
Acclaimed heavyweights Northlane return with ‘Deathwish’, a new single and the fourth preview of their upcoming seventh studio album ‘Anemoia’, now with a new release date of November 27th, following production delays.
Says singer Marcus Bridge:
‘Deathwish’, is “a companion song to ‘Crucified,’ but where that song surveys the landscape, ‘Deathwish’ zooms in on the individual. It’s written from the first-person perspective of someone who is entirely unwilling to listen – convinced of their own reality, blind to anyone else’s. I’m the centre of the universe / I’m blind to what you need. The lyrics aren’t self-referential, but it communicates an understanding of the psychology well enough to inhabit it, and the chorus turns the lens slightly inward: am I the one that’s cursed? I know it’s all I’ve come to be.
Chaotically charged and surprisingly raw, Northlane deliver a creative effort with this new track. One that grabs and holds the attention through its potent combo of drum and bass energy and metallised intensity. The way the track builds and builds to a crescendo of heaviness is simply awesome.
Beast in Black – Lost Children
International powerhouse Beast in Black have revealed ‘Lost Children’, the next track from their highly anticipated upcoming fourth studio album, ‘Fear The Beast’ (Nuclear Blast).
A sweet, soft, singalong ballad from Beast in Black, this new single has a fairytale feel that draws inspiration from the heyday of 80s rock and pop. Powerful, but poised, it’s all about melodic harmony, even when it’s time to rock up and become more cinematic, which it certainly does. It’s the kind of track that is very hard to dislike but also the kind of track that doesn’t necessarily inspire.
What Lies Below – Return to Nothing
Pennsylvania metal outfit What Lies Below have announced their signing to Solid State Records and shared their new single ‘Return To Nothing’.
Vocalist Andrew Watson says:
‘Return to Nothing’ is written from the perspective of escaping the dark of ‘I Let It Consume Me’. The lyrics explore the struggle to escape a life weighed down by grief, isolation and the burdens of the past. They follow a journey from darkness and despair toward awakening, with cracks in the darkness revealing glimpses of hope and a way forward.
Showing just how bright their future is, What Lies Below bring the heavy with this new slab of crunching intensity. It’s an explosive listen, but one that has plenty of layered melody too. The band are digging into deep areas here and make it count with some serious passion.
Suicide Silence – Reminders of Hell
Having already dropped two singles and their accompanying videos, Suicide Silence now unveil ‘Reminders of Hell’. The new track arrives alongside a drum playthrough video.
Says the band:
‘Graceless’ is a crusher, ‘Make Your Exit’ is a bouncer and now it’s time to go into the depths for ‘Reminders of Hell’. This track is a little more multidimensional and is sure to get you banging your head. Check out our own Ernie Iniguez ripping through it on the drum play through we just dropped.
A straight-forward feral showcase of Suicide Silence’s intensity, this new single goes very hard, and a lot of its weight comes courtesy of the drums. It’s a blistering and vicious effort that serves to remind listeners that this band can still deliver the most extreme of extreme sounds.
