Album Review: Save Us – Death to Something (Solid State Records)
Long-awaited, ‘Death to Something’ is the debut album from modern metalcore and alternative metal band, Save Us. The much-anticipated release is out on October 16th via Solid State Records.

Laying it all out in delicate, dramatic, and pop-driven fashion, but with a thick layer of moodiness that gives the track a darker tone, Save Us kick the album off in style with Chains. A track that builds and builds, showcasing the heavier side to Save Us as it goes on.
It’s a solid start, but it doesn’t quite thrill me, especially when compared to what follows. Last of Me, at first, feels quite similar, but as this one goes on, Save Us unleash a cacophony of epic intensity and passion. The kind that cuts right to the soul. For me, it’s when the album really bursts into life and the following Mente Fragmentada, a beast of a track, and No Holding Back, keep the momentum high.
How about Seraphim though? Save Us at their heaviest? It’s certainly in with a shout as it finds the band in the most venomous of moods, albeit with notable melody and a chorus that drifts serenely. It’s all about the verses though. Explosive and intense, it’s a track that will cause carnage in the live environment.
I do enjoy Save Us when they unleash their heavier side, but I do like a lot of their melodrama too and one of my favourites that sit on that side of things is Far. The melody in this one is quite touching, and alongside Runway and Bruised, it oozes passion, just in different ways.
Speaking of poppy sounds though, Cry is the album’s most explorative effort. It’s still Save Us, just Save Us finding a deeper and more heartfelt layer to their sound. It’s not for everyone, but there will be plenty who absolutely love it.
An energetic one, Numb, is welcome at this stage and Save Us remind us that they can also make music to dance to. Even if the tortured vocals still add layers of emotion and flashes of heaviness add a sense of chaos. This leads nicely into the penultimate effort, the title track, a tender and thought-provoking listen. Before Stasis wraps things up in highly dramatic fashion. Save Us haven’t been shy about letting their emotions take over throughout, but this might be the pinnacle of that, especially within the vocals.
I think if you’ve loved everything you’ve heard from Save Us to date, then you’re going to come away very pleased by what you hear on the record. It’s the encapsulation of who they are, and a lot of it can be challenging, but with that comes reward.
