EP Review: HRTLSS – The Devil On My Shoulders (Papercut Records)

Modern metalcore and alternative crossover four-piece HRTLSS will release their new EP ‘The Devil On My Shoulder’ on October 2nd, 2026, via Papercut Records. Four tracks focusing on toxic relationships, destructive desire, self-deception and the pressures of accountability, it is HRTLSS at their most personal.

An incredibly eclectic band with creativity running through their veins, HRTLSS dig deep here and unleash a set of mesmerising tracks that come filled with emotive power. You don’t even have to directly relate to the stories to feel that or get enjoyment out of what is on offer. HRTLSS’ ability to draw the listener in comes from their fusion of metal, electronica, and alternative sounds.

Pulling the Thread has such potency, encapsulating infectious and dangerous toxicity, and opens the record in pulsating fashion. Whereas the title track delivers a colourful showcase of balanced melody and metalcore that speaks fiercely about not taking responsibility for actions. Before Breath Me In sees HRTLSS explore the deep and dark world of temptation, with an explosive latter part capturing the destructive nature of it, and To Dust can best be summed up with just one word – consequences.

It’s a sobering, thought-provoking, and expressive record that is HRTLSS through and through.
