EP Review: GRINN – Silence (Self Released)

Alternative metal newcomers GRINN will release their debut EP, ‘Silence’, on September 18th, 2026.

One word that comes to mind having listened to Silence through several times is ‘focus’. GRINN have focus. The kind that is driving them forward in confident fashion. You don’t have to love this EP to recognise that this is a band with a very bright future.

I do love it though. GRINN’s style of alternative metal is fresh enough to immediately grab the attention and then it comes down to all the little details. This is what makes their music long-lasting.

Another word that comes to mind is ‘feeling’ and it goes both ways. GRINN’s EP is packed with feeling and through their melodramatic, intense, authentic, and infectious alt-metal ways, the listener will come away feeling something too.

Moody and mind-altering, Easier to Hurt is a potent opener with a chorus that soars. Showcasing the impressive pop-infusions that GRINN make seem so natural. Whereas All Gone to Shit is a much more metallised effort with concentrated heaviness pushed to the forefront. Though, what really makes this track special are the offbeat instrumental touches. All for You then caps off the first part of the EP in radio rocking fashion, GRINN delivering something a little more basic, but nonetheless thrilling.

The EP is broken up with a couple of ambient and experimental tracks. The first of which is the haunting And All in Vain. Later, there is Look Yonder at That Mountain and that might be one of the most unique things heard this year.

Elsewhere GRINN continue to show just why their name is being spoken about with such respect. Showcasing even more captivating ferocity with the garish and glaring Control, and even more anthemic grandeur with the brash Hold the Knife. Two of the EP’s strongest efforts in my opinion.

One final word that comes to mind is ‘breathless’, which is how I felt come the title track. Yet I still found the turbulent and chaotic intensity of it all as unforgettable as everything else heard so far. GRINN know how to keep the listener engaged and that means Untitled, the emotive, pretty, and cinematic finale, arrives in sudden fashion and potentially will leave some with a sense of loss.

Just press play again. It’s quite impossible to deny that urge, not when GRINN have crafted something so strong.
