Der Weg Einer Freiheit to release an instrumental version of Innern on 11th September via Season of Mist
Der Weg Einer Freiheit are set to mark the 1 year anniversary of their game changing album, Innern, by releasing Innern (Instrumental) on the 11th of September via Season of Mist.
Stripped of Kamprad’s vocals, the six tracks expose the compositional architecture beneath the album’s meditation on suffering and renewal, foregrounding the classical undercurrent—from Chopin to Arvo Pärt—that has shaped the band’s writing since Noktvrn. Rausch and Kamprad’s guitar interplay, Noruspur’s basslines, and Schuler’s drumming carry the record’s weight on their own terms, revealing textures that sit beneath the album’s black metal surface. Available exclusively as a digital release with alternative artwork, this edition functions as a companion to the original Innern, an invitation to hear the record’s architecture laid bare.
An instrumental rendering of “Xibalba” leads the release, offering a new route into one of the album’s most oppressive and cathartic pieces.

I’m a huge fan of Innern and gave it top marks in my review last year. You can read that here. I was lucky to then catch them at Incineration Fest in London earlier this year where they played a couple tracks from it and it was amazing. Listening to it again here in this form just reignites that love and passion for the album again for me. It’s emotional, atmospheric and hypnotic to listen to hitting you wave after wave of oppression and thought provoking heaviness.
