Horror Short Review: Marbles (2024)

Written, edited, and directed by Robert Hamilton, Marbles is a horror short that stars Audrey Venable, BJ Mezek, and R. David King.

Ellie, a young woman working in a record store, is closing for the night. Her boss has left a box of donated records to sort through before she goes home. As she does, she comes across a record with a disconcerting cover by an artist called Sam Shaw. Intrigued by it, she decides to play it, finding a rough homemade country/blues recording that has breathy vocals and creepy lyrics.

This is no ordinary record. It holds the spirit of a monster, and now that it has been played, Sam ‘Marbles’ Shaw is free to carry on with his killer performances.

A stylish slasher horror with a clever musical twist, while Marbles lacks originality, it delivers memorability. It looks and sounds great, has a really watchable lead, and plenty of supernatural frights to keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the bloody and violent end.
