The biggest album of the year?

What a moment this is for Electric Callboy. On the most unstoppable of forms, delighting audiences that only seem to grow and grow all over the world, and releasing hit after hit. Love them or loathe them, nobody can deny their impact.

Now, it’s important that they don’t begin to stagnant. So, the question is if TANZNEID is the album that pushes them to even greater heights. Though, if you’ve been paying attention to Electric Callboy in recent times, you will already know the answer as TANZNEID features many previously released tracks. Some of which have already become live staples. Who hasn’t bopped to RATATATA and Elevator Operator at an Electric Callboy show?

They are two of the album’s biggest hits, with the former being a great dance and metal mashup that features the might of BABYMETAL, and the latter being absurdly anthemic. Both tracks have the biggest of choruses and perfectly capture what makes Electric Callboy special. That tongue in cheek, fun combination of modern metal, techno, and Europop. The breakdown in the latter still goes so hard after hearing it countless times.

Those are tracks that put the biggest of smiles on my face, but there’s very little that doesn’t leave me punch-drunk with happiness. The title track opens the album, and while I think it’s one of the least interesting efforts, it’s still undeniably infectious. The same goes for Hypercharged, where Electric Callboy keep it simple and familiar, delivering an energetic floor filler that has the capabilities to get a crowd dancing and pitting wildly at the same time. It’s fun, silly, infectious, and heavy. Why change up a winning formula?

The other guest on the album is a big one. Dexter of The Offspring. Let the Good Times Roll is a track that shows just how far Electric Callboy have come. Delivering a catchy punk rock effort that sounds a bit like Conspiracy of One-era Offspring, albeit with Electric Callboy’s electronica twists and heavy turns. I don’t mind it, but I don’t get excited about.

Compare that to the big industrial rhythms and pop hooks of Heartclub, a track that gets my heart pounding in my chest. Though The Way You Are does that too, but for completely different reasons. Remember Hurrikan from previous album Tekkno? Of course you do. Well, this track takes on a similar form and I absolutely love it. Play it to the boyband lovers in your life and be prepared for one hell of a fun reaction.

How good is Electric Callboy’s cover of Sum 41’s Still Waiting? So good that it’s on the album too. One of Sum 41’s best songs given the Electric Callboy treatment, are you surprised it’s a banging cover!? To be honest, it’s such a straight-forward cover, given a bit more of a heavy bite and using electronica in places to add a different vibe, that there’s not a whole to say here. It’s an anthem and Electric Callboy do it justice. I love it because I love the original song.

It, like the entire album, is Electric Callboy playing it safe. Though that is not a knock as their sound is far from stale at this stage and, as I said already, hit after bloody hit. There might not be much innovation within the final two original tracks The Savior and Revery, but trust me, they’re absurdly anthemic.

Those who want a bit more though will find the latter part also features some remixes. Remixes courtesy of Sullivan King, Paolo Ferrara, and Paul Elstak. Each to their own, but these versions do very little to me even though I can see how they will help Electric Callboy reach a whole new audience.

I don’t need to tell you that this album is going to be huge, just look at some of the songs on it already. The rise of Electric Callboy is unstoppable, so simply shut up, and get some moves.
